Kid’s Club! October 1st-6th
This week we were invited to a christian school each day. We brought lots of games, crafts, and supplies to spend time with the kids. It was a K-6 school with a little under 200 kids, and each day looked a little different. Our job was to pour into both the students and the teachers in any way that we could. I had opportunities to assist in some of the younger classrooms in the mornings and all of our afternoons were spent outside playing! It was amazing to be a part of school in a different culture, especially talking about God! A lot of these children may not have the best home lives, so it was such a blessing to show them joy and affection and meet them where they were at. They may have needed it more that I’ll ever understand.
Two of the mornings, we were invited into their chapel time to teach a bible story! We taught the story of Jonah and the whale and did a little skit. We got to ask the kids some questions and apply the story to their lives. We asked them why Jonah ran away from God, and talked about how we might try and run from him in our own lives. We talked about how we can never truly run from God and how he always hears our prayers. We also touched on obedience and what it looks like to obey the Lord in his calling and also how to obey the important people in our lives (parents and teachers). These kids were very smart and had a good understanding of God and who he is, so it was awesome to see them thinking about how to pursue God in new ways at such a young age.
Two of the days we also got to teach a couple of English lessons! It was a really unique way to connect with all of the age groups, a way to invite them into our lives and show them a little extra love. We taught colors and body parts, and depending on each age group we had games, songs, and activities to engage them in the English. I taught the kindergarten age both days and I loved seeing how fast they learned. HUGE shout out to Jess Arnold (my childhood Spanish teacher and now an amazing woman of God that I look up to in so many ways), I used your colors song and added a dance to teach the kindergarten classes and they LOVED it! They caught right on!
Overall, this week I learned that sharing the joy of the Lord is one of the most beautiful ways to show who he truly is to others. It was a great reminder to see these children that have an amazing curiosity and I hope to live with a childlike faith in Jesus forever.
Prayer Requests:
-Pray for each child and each heart that we touched this week. Pray that the Lord would never feel distant for them and they would continue to grow up knowing him
-Pray that kids were impacted by us this week. That they felt loved and accepted and adored by us
-Pray for my team as we continue to move into ministry! That we would continue to connect and build deeper relationships with God
-Praise God for the amazing and beautiful opportunities he has given us to be in this specific place talking to each specific person. It is so clear that the Holy Spirit has been paving a way for us way before we got here
